Bucket-list Events: Plan Your 2023-24 Season

Race Resources, Tips & Ideas Friday, December 15, 2023

Whether you want to race, tour, learn something new, or just party with fellow Nordorks, here are season highlights you’ll want to put on your calendar now.

You know how it goes: The season’s first ski gives way to the holiday crush; suddenly it’s peak season and you haven’t signed up for that race or planned that weekend clinic you and your bestie talked about doing.

Solution? Choose your faves today (and book your lodging!) so you have time to train, plan, and find the perfect costume if that’s how you roll. Plan-ahead bonus: Experts say vacation anticipation actually boosts happiness.

So pop open your calendar and block off some time for Nordic joy.

Save these dates if you like to…

… Party (in a Costume)

February 3: Alley Loop Nordic Marathon, Crested Butte Nordic

The OG of unhinged, all-out, costumed ski races is equal parts rollicking good time and legit iconic competition.

March 9: BrewSki, Frisco Nordic

This beer-fest-on-skis packs the punch of a pub crawl, the happy chaos of a group tour. So grab that unicorn onesie and pony up for BrewSki; after the tour, stick around for music and beer tastings at the after-party.

… Race Like You Mean It

January 21: Owl Creek Chase, Aspen

Thanks to resident moose camping out in Buttermilk, the race is being rerouted this year and will run in an enduro format on the Aspen side.

February 18: Gothic Mountain Tour, Crested Butte

A pinnacle ski-mountaineering race circumnavigating Gothic Mountain in the Crested Butte backcountry.

March 9-10: Stampede, Snow Mountain Ranch

This classic is known for challenging courses and drawing serious competitors; a good finish here is a point of pride.

…. Ski Under the Stars

January 26 and 27: Full Moon Ski, Gold Run Nordic

Check out this new addition to the Gold Run event offerings and take to the trails by moonlight.

February 3: Eat, Ski and Be Merry, Frisco Nordic

A snowy night on candlelit trails is pure magic—wander the Frisco peninsula on skis and snowshoes and stop at trailside bonfires for snacks and drinks.

February 23: Moon Lit Nordic Ski & Snowshoe, Snow Mountain Ranch

SMR’s setting is home to panoramic Continental Divide views; glide through willows and pines as the moon rises over the peaks.

… Race for Just for Fun

December 27: Town Race Series, Vail Nordic Center

Escape the Christmas crowds by day and drop in for breezy 1K, 3K, and 5K freestyle evening races—with a holiday theme. Gather at Grill on the Gore for a post-race party.

… Take it to the Backcountry

March 16: Telemark Workshop, Vail Nordic School

Build on your Nordic foundation by giving tele skis a go—workshops are for all levels.
