4 Early Season Nordic Clinics Not to Miss

Tips & Ideas Tuesday, November 18, 2025

Snow is starting to stick, skis are coming out of storage, and that wax bench is calling. Early season is the perfect time to shake off the rust, fine-tune your technique, and set yourself up for a strong winter on snow—whether your goal is to add more power to your double pole or simply stay upright on skate skis.

To help you kick things off, we’ve rounded up four standout Nordic clinics across Colorado. From full-weekend camps to free beginner lessons, each offers great coaching, a welcoming vibe, and local tips to make a day (or weekend) of it.

1. Crested Butte Nordic Thanksgiving Camp

Dates: November 28–30, 2025
Crested Butte Nordic Center, Crested Butte

The vibe: This three-day clinic is a longtime favorite and with good reason. From first-timers to seasoned skiers, there’s something for everyone here: classic and skate clinics, kids’ and para sessions, and even gear demos. The vibe is low-pressure, high-fun, and the coaches know how to meet you where you’re at.

What’s special: One of the earliest full-snow camps in the country, this Thanksgiving weekend clinic is where skiers go to jumpstart their season. Improve your waxing skills, test the best new gear from Fischer and Atomic, and hang in one of Colorado’s most charming mountain towns. Technique coaching includes video analysis.

While you’re in the neighborhood: Warm up post-ski at Secret Stash Pizza (local legend) and order the Notorious F.I.G., winner of the World Champion Pizza Challenge.

2. Tommelfest

Dates: December 13, 2025
Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Tabernash

The vibe: These free clinics come wrapped in a boisterous Viking party vibe, complete with costumes, keg tossing, and lots and lots of glögg wine (hot, spiced, mulled, delicious). Register online to secure a spot.

What’s special: Group lessons are taught by the University of Colorado and University of Denver Nordic team coaches—the same ones who’ve taken their teams to top NCAA finishes. You’re getting insight from the best.

While you’re in the neighborhood: Stop in for a beer and some crispy Buffalo brussels at the Tabernash Tavern.

3. Vail Nordic Center “Next Level” Technique Clinic

Date: To Be Announced Soon
Vail Nordic Center, Vail

The vibe: Geared toward experienced skiers, these weekly clinics focus on refining form. Coaches focus on specific technique improvements in both classic and skate—you’ll get feedback, drills, and a boost of confidence before the busy season kicks in.

What’s Special: Designed for intermediate to advanced skiers, these clinics move at a satisfying pace for those who are comfortable and ready to level up. Limited space means instruction stays focused on your needs. This clinic might be challenging to secure a spot in, but it's worth it for the personalized attention.

While you’re in the neighborhood: After you wrap up, hit Vendetta’s in Vail Village for a beer and a slice, or swing by Yeti’s Grind for one of the best mochas in the valley.

4. Snow Mountain Ranch Free Nordic Ski Lessons

Date: December 7, 2025 and January 25, 2026
Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center, Granby

The vibe: No excuses—this one’s free. The Grand Nordic Club partners with the YMCA’s Snow Mountain Ranch to offer intro lessons in both classic and skate for adults and kids.

What’s special: The atmosphere manages to be both family/beginner-friendly and welcoming to serious advanced skiers in search of big, varied, and challenging terrain. Also, enjoy views of the Continental Divide that take your breath away. Grand Nordic Club skiers are excellent ambassadors to the sport and ski areas of Grand County.

While You're in the Neighborhood: fill up with a pasture-to-plate old-time western flavor at Fitch Ranch Cafe in Granby, or head to Camber Brewing in Fraser for a handcrafted beer with locals.
