These Nordic Events are Geared Toward Fun

News Wednesday, January 15, 2020

Race, laugh, learn something new—these laid-back Nordic events are here to make you smile. We know that serious race season is at full tilt, but that’s no reason not to kick it with some cross-country ski events designed just for grins. Why?

Part of it is a need for community—we have an ever-shrinking IRL social network, and hooking up with like-minded folk (call us Nordic nerds, it’s okay) fosters social bonds that are a key component to happiness. Especially when the purpose for getting together is all about a shared interest and celebrating fun.

Also, beyond the pleasure factor of goofing around, psychologists know that playfulness helps us cope with stress and even serves as training for the unexpected. (So your race time might improve after all).

Here are a few terrific events on the frisky and lighthearted side to check out over the next month:

1. Frisco Freeze, February 22, Frisco Nordic Center

Ditch your skis and rustle up a fat bike to burn hot laps on this 14K course at Frisco Nordic Center. Hang around after for soup and a cold beer with friends as your reward on the deck of the Nordic center.

2. Town Series Race, February 26, Vail Nordic/Maloit Park

This after-work Wednesday night series is an all-ages, no-experience-necessary, BYO headlamp fun fest. February 26 is freestyle night, with starts for youth and adults.

3. Frisco Brewski, March 14, Frisco Nordic Center

Happy hour, costumes. and skiing. Join us in celebrating the 5th Annual Frisco Brewski. This family friendly event is the perfect chance to form a team with friends and family, don costumes and enjoy a fun ski tour through the woods with the occasional stop for beverages and snacks.

4.Spring Festival, March 21, Snow Mountain Ranch

Join Snow Mountain Ranch for their annual Spring Festival March 21-22! Events and activities featuring snowshoeing, fat biking and Nordic skiing will fill your schedule for the weekend as you soak up the spring sun.
